Each tea in this collection is personally selected by a Tea Sommelier for the quality and the character of the finished cup, considering the origin, elevation, and leaf style.

Why Sri Lankan Black Tea Is Revered Worldwide

Sri Lanka has earned its reputation as one of the world’s finest black tea origins due to its extraordinary geographic and climatic diversity. Elevation, monsoon rains, wind patterns, temperature, and soil composition vary dramatically across the island, creating black teas with strikingly different flavour profiles.

Sri Lanka specializes in orthodox black tea processing, which preserves leaf integrity and complexity.. Orthodox teas are carefully rolled and oxidized, allowing the leaf to develop complex character. The result is a cleaner, brighter cup with layered aromas—qualities that have made Ceylon tea a benchmark for premium black tea worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Does “Ceylon” Mean in Ceylon Black Tea?
Ceylon” refers to Sri Lanka, the historic name still used exclusively for tea. Only tea grown and produced in Sri Lanka can legally be called Ceylon tea.
Are Ceylon Select English Breakfast and Afternoon Teas Blended?
No. We substitute traditional blended styles with more refined, single-origin Ceylon black teas to elevate the breakfast and afternoon tea experience.
What Is a Black Tea Blend?
A black tea blend is a tea made by combining black teas from different regions or estates to achieve a consistent flavour profile. Blending is commonly used in mass-market teas to standardize taste, whereas single-origin black teas highlight the unique character of one specific region or estate
Why Are They Called Breakfast and Afternoon Teas?
Breakfast” and “Afternoon” describe the style of drinking, not blending. A low-grown tea is chosen for Breakfast for its depth and body, while a high-grown tea is selected for Afternoon for its lighter, more refined character.
What Does Orthodox Black Tea Mean?
Orthodox black tea is whole leaf tea produced using traditional rolling and oxidation methods that preserve leaf structure. This results in greater aroma, clarity, and complexity compared to CTC teas.
What Is Imperial Pluck and Fine Pluck?
Imperial pluck and fine pluck refer to the quality of tea leaf harvesting by hand. Imperial pluck is the most selective harvest, typically consisting of the youngest bud and the first tender leaf Fine pluck usually includes two young leaves and a bud, the traditional standard for high-quality tea. Both plucking standards reflect careful hand-harvesting and are associated with premium teas.
Why Does Standards Plucking Matter in Tea?
Plucking affects the flavor, aroma, and refinement of the tea. Younger leaves produce a smoother, more elegant cup, while coarser leaves create heavier, less nuanced teas
What Is FBOP Black Tea?
FBOP (Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe) is a premium orthodox black tea grade made from small, evenly broken leaves with visible tips. It produces a bright, balanced cup with refined strength and aroma.
How Does Elevation Affect Black Tea Flavour?
Elevation influences growth speed and chemistry of the leaf. High-grown teas are lighter, aromatic, and brisk Mid-grown teas are balanced and smooth Low-grown teas are fuller-bodied and naturally rich
Are These Teas Suitable for Milk or Lemon?
Yes. Fuller-bodied black teas, such as low-grown Ceylon teas, pair well with milk, while high-grown teas are best enjoyed plain or with a slice of lemon.
Is This Black Tea Flavoured in Any Way?
No. These are pure black teas with no added flavours, oils, or botanicals. All aroma and taste come naturally from the tea leaf.
Does Black Tea Contain Caffeine?
Yes. Black tea naturally contains caffeine. The level varies by leaf style, origin, and brewing method.
Can These Black Teas Be Steeped More Than Once?
